Useful Siri tips on iPhone: Practicing languages with Siri

Do you use Siri on your iPhone?

Simply hold down the Home button until Siri opens. You can then talk into your iPhone and Siri will assist you with a number of different tasks.

For instance, if you want to call someone or set your alarm, simply ask Siri and it will all be done for you!

Sounds super useful, right? But did you know that you can also practice foreign languages with Siri?

Currently there are 21 languages supported by Siri: Chinese (Mandarin, Cantonese), Korean, French, German, Spanish, Russian, Portuguese, Malay, Hebrew, Arabic, Finnish, Norwegian, Turkish, Danish, Thai, Swedish, Dutch, Italian, and Japanese.

Siri was also designed to recognize the specific accents and dialects in supported countries. For example, ‘English’ is available in any of the U.S., UK, Australian, Canadian, Singaporean and New Zealand variants.

Many of you are probably using Japanese for Siri, but if you change the language settings to the language you are studying, you can talk to Siri in that language and practice your conversation skills. We highly recommend doing this! It’s often difficult to gauge whether what you are saying is understood when studying by yourself, but doing this allows you to talk to Siri anywhere, anytime and check. And it’s actually really cool when Siri understands you and can serve as a great motivator for your studies.

Setting up Siri is very simple:

From the Home screen select Settings > General > Siri > Language and then select your language and you are all set.

Siri is your anywhere, anytime language partner!

For those of you who haven’t yet done so, why not give it a try?

Useful Features: Optimizing Access to Files

This time we would like to introduce a useful feature for optimizing access to files and folders.

Windows users may already be aware of this function, but for those of you who are not we thought it might prove useful to write a little post detailing this handy little feature.

Creating a desktop shortcut is probably the most common way to access sub-folders and files, but as the number of these shortcuts increase, it becomes a hassle to try and locate them.

So with that in mind, we will show you an alternative solution to this problem: pinning folders to your task bar.

1) Open the folder containing the sub-folder you wish to create a shortcut for

(the example below shows how to easily access a folder named ‘TEST3’)

2) Click on the applicable folder and then drag it onto the folder icon on your task bar.

3) Next time you right click on the folder icon on your desktop, you will see a shortcut to your selected folder appear in the pinned folder menu.

4) Easily Accessible from the Task bar

This incredibly handy little feature can even be used for individual Microsoft Word and Excel files etc., making complex file or folder management that little bit easier than simply creating numerous desktop shortcuts.

Why not give it a try?

Useful Skype Features: Screen Sharing

When trying to explain how to open or use particularly complicated tools or files, or explain detailed control systems, wouldn’t it be useful if you could see your friend/colleague’s screen, or show them yours?

Well, that is exactly what Skype’s “screen sharing” function is for!

Using this function, you can share a real-time feed of your PC’s desktop with your friend or colleague during a Skype call. To share your own screen, simply select ‘Call’ -> ‘Share Screens…’ -> ‘Start’ from the top menu bar when in a call with the person you wish to share your screen with.

Use this feature to easily share your screen and make complicated explanations that little bit easier, helping to improve work accuracy among entire teams.

As both parties must agree to use this feature before being launched, you can rest assured that your security will always be maintained.

If all this sounds interesting to you then why not give it a try?
